
The Portland Workshops
Presented from the Foundations Portland heritage precinct, the Portland Workshops will offes an array of education opportunities for all levels of creative enthusiasts, in an inspiring post-industrial landscape. Traditional and contemporary fine arts including sculpture, drawing and animation will be accompanied by historic trades such as upholstery, leather working and blacksmithing.
Re-Uholstery; Repair and Rejuvenate
Date: 3 & 4th October 2020 (2 days)
Tutor: Fiona Edmeades of We Us and Stuff / Reign of Chairs
A wonderful introduction to the practical and traditional craft of upholstery and furniture repair and rejuvenation.
This is a two day bring-your-own-chair workshop. Projects can be varied from structurally sound chairs ready for re-upholstery, to chairs that need a fix and timber rejuvenation. Projects can also include small timber furniture items, (with no upholstered element).

Footstool Flourish/ An introduction to upholstery
Date: Friday 2nd October 2020 (4 hours)
Tutor: Fiona Edmeades We Us and Stuff / Reign of Chairs
A 4 hour workshop providing a wonderful taster into the traditional and practical craft of upholstery.
You will style and upholster your own unique footstool to take home. Just bring fabric of your choice (50x60cm) or shop from our Fabric Box Shop on the day.

Women Welders of the West
An introduction to steel sculpture for women
Date: March 2021 (2 days)
Tutor: Harrie Fasher
Back by popular demand, the Women welders’ two-day workshop engages participants in the playful possibility in found object sculpture. Taught by women, for women, basic metal working skills are demystified with participants gaining competency on angle grinders and mig welders, taking home a steel sculpture and a keen hunger to make more!

Rhythms of the landscape - Painting and drawing
Date: To be Advised
Develop drawing and painting skills whilst immersed in the post-industrial heritage listed landscape of the Foundations, Portland. Once home to the Portland Cement Works the location offers post-industrial heritage architecture alongside the terrain of a regenerated quarry landscape.
Work with professional artists to developing a unique interpretation of The Foundations Portland.

Discover steel sculpture, for men and women
An introduction into techniques and history of steel construction sculpture
Dates: 13 & 14th February 2021 (2 days)
Tutor Harrie Fasher
Conducted within Harrie Fasher’s studio this two-day workshop will leave participants inspired and engaged by the playful possibility in found object sculpture. Suitable for both beginners and more experienced makers Welders of the West teaches formal elements of sculpture and contemporary art generating a strong, unexpected creative output.
